PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Amount of business data being stored worldwide is growing rapidly each year. It causes high demand in enterprise storage systems and their capabilities to efficiently eliminate redundancy in user data. Lossless data compression is one of the main data reduction technologies used in storage systems. More efficient compression algorithms provide more space savings for storages end customers.
In frame of this project we are going to research and develop brand new lossless data compression algorithms for Huawei primary and secondary enterprise storage systems. Improvement of existing compression methods is also considered. Typical business data is the main subject for compression: e.g. various databases types content, Virtual Server and Desktop Infrastructures. Compression of specific data types is also possible: genome data, satellite images, 5G logs data, etc.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Take part in lossless data compression area research and development trends to build industry-leading data reduction competitiveness for enterprise storage systems.
- Analyze existing lossless data compression approaches and algorithms for the ways of speed and compression ratio improvement.
- Contribute to design, development, verification and delivery of lossless data compression algorithms providing higher efficiency than existing analogs (by compression ratio and/or performance)
- Algorithms performance optimization
POSITION KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATOR
- The contribution to algorithms compression ratio and/or speed improvement are done and used.
- The ideas proposed by you are successfully delivered in accordance to project schedule, integrated into product and commercially used.
REQUIREMENTS
- Higher education;
- Deep knowledge in algorithms and data structures domain, strong skills in algorithmic problems solving.
- Be familiar with lossless data compression algorithms basics such as LZ compression, Huffman coding. Familiarity with modern compression algorithms such as LZ4, ZSTD is a plus.
- Strong programming skills in C/C++.
- Knowledge of other data reductions technologies is a plus.
- Have experience of optimizing algorithms performance for target platforms (x86 and/or ARM) is a plus.
- English would be a plus.
